Merseyside Black Police Association (MBPA) is a support network consisting of black and minority ethnic (BME) police officers and police staff of all ranks and grades from across the force. We also have a number of associate members who are not BME staff but have an interest and committment to furthering the aims of the MBPA.
We are committed to ensuring equitable treatment of BME employees in Merseyside Police and a quality of service to the diverse communities of Merseyside

Open meetings are held on a quarterly basis and are open to all members, associate members and invited guests.
Membership is open to all police officers and police staff of any rank and grade. To obtain further information or an application form, please contact us on 0151 777 4406.
Our intention is to put processes in place which give us a better foundation to carry out the aims and objectives described elsewhere within this website, to improve upon: providing support to Black and Minority Ethnic Staff who need it: to improve how we consult with and engage local communities: to bring even greater value to Merseyside Police.
This process will take time, with many of the changes & improvements evolving over time. Very little of what we do will be exempt from the review. However, the main areas to prioritise will be (not exhaustive):
- Our strategy.
- Our Constitution.
- Role profiles of Executive members.
- Expectations of portfolios holders.
Needless to say with the work involved and our limited resources this may compromise what we do now. This will not affect how we support Black and Minority Ethnic Colleagues who are in need of support. This is our priority, but may affect our ability to provide a service elsewhere. We ask that you understand and apologise, in advance of any disappointment this may cause.
Thank you
Vinny Tomlinson
