Executive member : Sgt. Karen Griffiths
I have been in the Police for over 15 years now, originally Greater Manchester Police before transferring to Merseyside 12 years ago. Currently I am the Area training Sergeant based on the Wirral. I am responsible for the development and welfare of the student officers posted to our Area during their first 2 years service. My team and I also have responsibility for training the 800 or so other staff who work on the Wirral. I thoroughly enjoy this role and value the support I receive from my colleagues and friends within my team.
I decided to join the MBPA and to nominate myself as an executive member to give something back. I know it sounds a bit twee but I have previously distanced myself for a variety of reasons but now think it’s about time I made a contribution. I am not the most knowledgable about black and BRM issues. I will learn though. But what I do know and care about is people; whatever race, religion, colour. I also have a strong sense of right and wrong, of fairness and justice.
I will not stand back and watch any discrimination, bullying or generally doing people down. I'm quite happy to open my mouth and stand up for myself and for others. We are all part of an organisation, which ought to look after its staff giving support, care and consideration. The strong people within the organisation have a responsibility to look out for those who aren't quite so strong and struggle to speak up and speak out. With the support of peers, colleagues and managers a vulnerable person, suffering within work, will feel able to deal with the issues affecting them and look to put right what is going wrong for them. If you need any advice, help or support from me just ask.
