Process for securing M.B.P.A services

Introduction

Since the formation of Merseyside Black Police Association in 1999, the role we play to assist the Force, has increased both in diversity and quantity. Subsequently, the Executive members have decided that a more formal process should be formed for anyone whowishes to secure the services of MBPA. Whether its clarification or an input on a particular issue or advice, or race related concerns regarding Merseyside Police, the below process should be adhered to:

1.1 Persons or organisations who wish to secure the services of MBPA should contact the Chairperson of MBPA and agree and arrange the assistance required. This can be done in a number of ways:

    • Ring the MBPA office on 0151 777 4406
    • Via e-mail Black.Police.Association@merseyside.police.uk.
    • Contact us via our website www.merseysidebpa.org.uk
    • Ring the Chair’s mobile phone on 0774 005 1721
    • Contact an Executive Member (details of which are on this website) who will ensure the request is brought to the attention of the Chair and the integrity of this process upheld (details also on ‘Merlin’ for internal requests).
    • Write to us (address available via our ‘contact’ link).

1.2 Only persons or organisations who have requested MBPA services as described above and had that request sanctioned by the Chair (or deputy in his/her absence) can formally state that they have secured the services of MBPA or had a BPA input.

2.1 Just having an MBPA member present at a meeting or event making a contribution should not be regarded as an MBPA input. Most Police Officers are Federation members but when they attend meetings they are not regarded as representing the Federation, unless they are an appointed as such and empowered to do so. The same principle applies to MBPA.

2.2 Members should not claim to be providing an MBPA view or input without having first undergone the above process.

The MBPA Executive committee has ratified the above process.

Due to our limited availability and increasing role, we are not able to guarantee that we will be able to agree to every request, but the above will facilitate greater efficiency, aid continuity and eliminate any ambiguity.
